At Joboo Web we build and host a large number of PHP/MySQL and WordPress websites for clients across Punjab, and many of them run on Hostinger shared and cloud plans. This review is based on that day-to-day experience, not a quick test site. Plans, prices and features change often, so always check the current details on Hostinger's own website before buying.
Who Hostinger suits
- Small business and brochure websites
- Local service businesses: taxi, travel, clinics, shops, consultants
- WordPress sites with moderate traffic
- Owners who want a simple control panel and low starting cost
It's less suited to very high-traffic stores, sites that need custom server software, or businesses that need guaranteed phone support.
What it does well
hPanel is easy
Hostinger uses its own control panel, hPanel, instead of cPanel. For beginners it's cleaner: domains, email, databases, file manager, SSL and backups are each a click away. If you've used cPanel before, it takes a day to get used to. See our cPanel and hPanel tutorial.
Good speed for the price
For typical small business sites, pages load quickly when the site itself is built well (optimised images, caching, clean code). LiteSpeed web servers and built-in caching help WordPress sites.
Free SSL and easy setup
SSL certificates install automatically on most plans. Pointing a domain and creating email accounts is straightforward.
Backups
Plans include automatic backups (frequency depends on the plan). Restoring a file or database from hPanel is simple. We still recommend keeping your own off-site backup too. See website backup guide.
Multiple sites on one plan
Higher shared plans allow several websites, which suits agencies and owners with more than one business.
Where it falls short
Renewal prices
Like most hosts, the low price advertised is usually for the first term, often with a long prepaid period. Renewal is higher. Plan for it, and read the hosting renewal price trap.
Support is chat-based
Support is mainly live chat. It's available around the clock and usually helpful for common issues, but complex problems can take several back-and-forth messages. There's no phone line to call.
Shared resource limits
Shared plans have limits on CPU, memory and simultaneous processes. A sudden traffic spike, a badly coded plugin or a bot attack can hit those limits and slow the site. Growing sites may need to move up to a cloud or VPS plan. See shared vs VPS vs cloud hosting.
Email is basic
Hostinger email works for small teams, but for heavy use, many staff or better spam filtering, Google Workspace or Zoho Mail may be better. See business email options compared.
Things we always do on Hostinger sites
- Register the domain in the client's name and turn on auto-renew
- Force HTTPS and set up redirects for www/non-www
- Turn on caching (LiteSpeed Cache for WordPress)
- Use a current PHP version. See upgrading PHP safely
- Add Cloudflare in front when a site needs extra protection
- Set up uptime monitoring so we know about downtime before the client does
- Keep off-site backups
Verdict
For most small businesses in India, Hostinger offers a good balance of price, speed and ease of use. Go in knowing the renewal price, use a well-built website, and upgrade when your traffic grows. If you need phone support, specialised server setups or very heavy traffic, consider a managed VPS or a different provider.
