"Hair in the bathroom" and "dusty room" are among the most common complaints in hotel reviews. A written housekeeping checklist turns cleaning from guesswork into a standard. Laminate one copy for each housekeeping trolley.
Bedroom
- Strip and replace all linen; check for stains and holes
- Dust headboard, side tables, lamp shades, TV top, AC vents
- Check under the bed and behind curtains
- Wipe switches, remote and door handles
- Empty bins, replace liners
- Restock water, tea/coffee, glasses
- Test lights, AC, TV and charging points
Bathroom
- Scrub toilet inside, outside and behind
- Clean shower area, tiles and glass. Remove every hair
- Clean drains and check water flow and hot water
- Replace towels and toiletries
- Polish mirror and taps
- Mop the floor last, and leave it dry
Final check
- Curtains straight, bed corners tight, chair positioned
- Room smells fresh, with no strong chemical smell
- AC set to a comfortable default
- Door locks and safe working
Inspection
A supervisor or the owner should inspect each room before marking it "ready". For small hotels, even a random check of 3 rooms a day improves standards quickly.
Linen and supplies
- Keep at least 3 sets of linen per bed (one in room, one in laundry, one in store)
- Track the laundry count daily to control losses
- Replace thin or stained linen. Guests notice
Training and accountability
- Show new staff one room cleaned to standard, then check their first rooms
- Record who cleaned each room
- Link complaints in reviews back to the room and person, then retrain without blame
Use reviews as your quality tracker. See reply to guest reviews.
FAQs
How long should a room take to clean?
