The contact page is one of the most visited pages on almost every business website, and the visitors who reach it are your warmest leads. They've already decided they might want to work with you. Yet many contact pages are an afterthought: a long form, a map that doesn't load, an email address nobody checks.
Here's how to turn your contact page into a page that reliably produces calls, WhatsApp chats and enquiries.
Give people their preferred channel
Customers differ. Some want to call immediately, many in India prefer WhatsApp, some prefer to write a message they can send at night. A good contact page offers all of them, in this order of visibility for most local businesses:
- Click-to-call button with the number written out
- WhatsApp button with a pre-filled message
- Short enquiry form
- Email address as clickable text
On mobile, put Call and WhatsApp at the top, before the form.
Keep the form short
Every extra field loses some people. For most service businesses, ask for:
- Name
- Phone number (with WhatsApp checkbox, if useful)
- What they need — a dropdown of services, or one short text box
Add one or two business-specific fields only if they genuinely speed things up — for a taxi service, pickup city, drop city and date; for a clinic, preferred day. Use the right input types (type="tel", type="email") so phones show the correct keyboard.
Show what happens next
Uncertainty stops people. Under the form, add a line like: "We reply within 15 minutes between 8 am and 10 pm. Your number is only used to reply to this enquiry." After submission, show a clear thank-you message, not a blank page.
Location and hours
- Address written as text (not only an image), matching your Google Business Profile exactly.
- Embedded Google Map, set to load lazily so it doesn't slow the page.
- A "Get Directions" link that opens Google Maps on the phone.
- Working hours, including Sundays and holiday notes.
- Landmarks help in India: "Near Clock Tower, opposite SBI".
If you're a service-area business, list the areas you serve instead of a street address.
Add reassurance
- A photo of your office, team or owner
- Your Google rating with a link to reviews
- Registration details if relevant (GST, licences, memberships)
- A short line on privacy
These small trust elements matter most for first-time customers. See website trust signals.
Technical checks that protect your leads
| Check | Why |
|---|---|
| Submit a test enquiry every month | Forms break silently after hosting or email changes |
| Save enquiries to a database, not only email | Emails can go to spam or fail |
| Spam protection | Fake enquiries waste time; see stopping form spam |
| WhatsApp link format | Use https://wa.me/91XXXXXXXXXX?text=... with country code, no plus sign or spaces |
| Track clicks and submissions | So you know how many leads the page produces |
If your form isn't delivering, our guide to contact form problems lists the usual causes.
Common mistakes
- CAPTCHA puzzles so hard that real customers give up
- Only an email address, with no phone or WhatsApp
- Different phone numbers on different pages
- Forms that ask for company size, budget, address and requirements before a first conversation
- Map embed showing the wrong pin
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I show my personal mobile number?
Many small businesses do. If you prefer separation, use a dedicated business number with WhatsApp Business.
Is a contact form still needed if I have WhatsApp?
Yes. Some visitors prefer forms, especially from desktop or outside working hours, and forms are easier to log.
Does the contact page help SEO?
It supports local SEO by confirming your name, address and phone, and it's important for trust. It rarely ranks for service keywords by itself.
Should the contact form be on every page?
A short form or clear CTA at the bottom of service pages works well, in addition to a dedicated contact page.
