Keyword research means finding the words and questions your customers type into Google, so you can create pages that match them. For local businesses, the best keywords are usually specific: a service plus a place, or a direct question about price, time or process.

Step 1: Start with your customers

Write down how customers describe what they need on calls and WhatsApp. They say "Innova on rent for Shimla", not "multi-utility vehicle hire services". These real phrases are your best keyword ideas.

Type your service into Google and note the suggestions: "dentist in Ludhiana for implants", "dentist open Sunday". Scroll to the bottom for "Related searches". Use an incognito window for cleaner results.

Step 3: People also ask

The question boxes show what people want to know: "How much does a root canal cost?" Each question can become a section or FAQ on your page.

Step 4: Google Keyword Planner

Free with a Google Ads account. Enter service terms and your location to see approximate search volume ranges and suggested keywords. Use it for direction — exact numbers are rough, especially for small towns.

Step 5: Search Console

If your site is live, the Queries report shows searches you already appear for. Look for queries where you rank on page 2 — those are quick wins.

Step 6: Check intent

Search the keyword and look at the top results. If Google shows maps and service pages, build a service page. If it shows guides, write an article. Match what Google already shows.

Step 7: Map keywords to pages

PageMain keywordSupporting keywords
Hometaxi service Ludhianacab service Ludhiana, outstation taxi

One main keyword per page avoids pages competing with each other.

Local keyword tips

  • Include nearby towns you serve, but only with genuinely useful pages.
  • Consider Hinglish and Punjabi spellings customers use.
  • "Near me" searches are driven mainly by Google Maps — optimise your Business Profile for those.
