Product schema helps Google show price, availability and ratings for your products. Here's how to add it correctly, with an example.

Structured data tells search engines exactly what's on a page. Product schema markup describes a product's name, price, availability, brand and reviews, helping Google show rich results and power free product listings.

Example (JSON-LD)

<script type="application/ld+json">
{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "Product",
  "name": "Men's Cotton Thermal Inner Set - Navy Blue",
  "image": ["https://example.com/images/thermal-navy-front.webp"],
  "description": "Soft cotton thermal set for winter, available in M, L, XL.",
  "sku": "THM-NVY",
  "brand": { "@type": "Brand", "name": "ExampleWear" },
  "offers": {
    "@type": "Offer",
    "url": "https://example.com/product/thermal-navy",
    "priceCurrency": "INR",
    "price": "899",
    "availability": "https://schema.org/InStock",
    "itemCondition": "https://schema.org/NewCondition"
  }
}
</script>

Important properties

  • name, image, description
  • offers with price, priceCurrency, availability
  • brand, sku, and gtin/mpn where available
  • aggregateRating and review only if the reviews are genuine and visible on the page
  • Shipping details and return policy markup (as supported by Google) can enhance merchant listings

Variants

For products with sizes/colours, Google supports product variant markup (ProductGroup with hasVariant). Each variant can have its own price, availability and identifiers. Alternatively, ensure each variant URL has correct Product markup.

Rules to follow

  • Markup must match what users see on the page (same price, stock)
  • Don't mark up fake or self-written reviews. It can lead to manual actions
  • Keep prices and availability updated automatically from your database
  • One main product per product page

How to add it

  • WooCommerce/Shopify: generate Product markup automatically; SEO plugins can extend it
  • Custom stores: output JSON-LD from your database in the product template

Test and monitor

  • Google Rich Results Test for individual URLs
  • Search Console → Shopping/Merchant listings and Product snippets reports for errors across the site
  • Fix warnings like missing brand or gtin where possible

Connect with Merchant Center

Accurate product markup helps Merchant Center and free listings. See Merchant Center free listings.

FAQs

No. Google decides when to show rich results; correct markup makes you eligible.

Can service businesses use Product schema?
