Once you know who hosts a website (see find a website's hosting provider), the next step is to report a website to its hosting provider with a clear complaint. Hosts receive many complaints; the ones that are specific and documented get acted on first.
Pick the right category
| Issue | Category to use |
|---|---|
| Copied text, photos, design | Copyright / intellectual property |
| Brand name or logo misuse | Trademark |
| Fake login pages, payment scams | Phishing / fraud |

| Spam emails sent from the server | Spam |
| Personal information exposed | Privacy |
| Defamation | Legal (hosts often need a court order) |
What to include
- Exact URLs of the problem content (not just the homepage)
- What's wrong in one or two sentences
- Your right to complain: owner, authorised agent, or affected person
- Evidence: screenshots, your original URLs, trademark certificate, government ID or authorisation letter where needed. See evidence of online infringement
- What you want: removal, disabling access, account suspension
- Contact details and, for copyright, a good-faith statement and signature. See takedown notice template
What hosts can do
- Ask the customer to remove content
- Disable specific files or the whole site
- Suspend accounts for serious or repeated abuse
- Preserve logs for law enforcement
What hosts usually can't do
- Give you the customer's personal details without legal process
- Decide complex disputes (defamation, ownership fights) without a court order
- Remove content hosted elsewhere
Follow up
Note the ticket number. If nothing happens within the host's stated timeline, reply on the same thread with any new evidence, or escalate to the registrar, platform or authorities.
Joboo Web clients and complainants can use our legal request form, which issues a ticket number and status page. Our approach is explained in the copyright policy.
