Ask any web designer what slows down a project and the answer is almost always the same: waiting for content. The design is ready, the pages are built, and then the site sits for weeks while the business owner looks for photos, decides on prices, or writes the About page.
Preparing content in advance makes your website launch faster, cost less in revisions, and look much better — because the design can be built around your real material instead of placeholder text. Use this checklist before your project starts.
1. Business basics
- Exact business name (as registered and as on Google Business Profile)
- Full address with PIN code — or service areas if customers don't visit
- Main phone, WhatsApp number and email
- Working hours, including Sundays and holidays
- Year started, GST number or registrations if you want them shown
- Social media profile links
- Google Maps link
Consistency matters for SEO: the name, phone and address must match everywhere.
2. Branding
- Logo in high resolution — ideally SVG, AI, EPS or a large PNG with transparent background
- Brand colours (hex codes if you have them)
- Any fonts used in your printed material
- Visiting cards, brochures or banners — they help the designer match your style

3. Pages and text
Agree the page list first. For most service businesses:
| Page | Content you provide |
|---|---|
| Home | One-line summary of what you do, for whom, and where; top 3–6 services; why choose you |
| About | Your story, team, experience, values, photos of the owner and team |
| Each service | What it includes, process, who it's for, price or price factors, FAQs |
| Contact | Address, map, hours, preferred contact method |
| Policies | Privacy, terms, refund or cancellation policy where relevant |
You don't need to write perfectly. Bullet points in Hindi, Punjabi or English are fine — a good agency can turn them into clear website copy. What you must provide is the facts: what you offer, how it works, and what makes you different. Our guide to writing service page content helps here.
4. Photos and videos
- Shop, office or vehicle exteriors and interiors
- Team and owner photos
- Photos of real work: completed projects, products, events
- Short videos (30–60 seconds) if available
- Certificates, awards, association memberships
Real photos build far more trust than stock images. See stock vs real photos for tips on taking your own.
5. Proof and trust
- Genuine customer reviews (with permission) or your Google reviews link
- Client logos you're allowed to show
- Case studies or before-and-after examples
- Numbers you can stand behind: years, projects, customers served
6. Logins and technical details
- Domain registrar login (or who registered the domain)
- Existing hosting login, if any
- Google Business Profile, Search Console and Analytics access
- Email setup details if you use business email
- Payment gateway account if you'll take online payments
Make sure the domain is in your name. Read who should own your domain and hosting.
7. Goals and examples
- The main action you want visitors to take: call, WhatsApp, form, booking, purchase
- 2–3 websites you like (and why) and any you dislike
- Your main competitors
- Keywords or services you most want to be found for
Tips to save time
- Put everything in one shared Google Drive folder with sub-folders: Logo, Photos, Text, Documents.
- Name files clearly ("team-rajesh-owner.jpg", not "IMG_2045.jpg").
- Choose one person on your side to approve content.
- Send feedback in one combined list rather than many separate messages.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the web designer write the content for me?
Many agencies, including Joboo Web, offer content writing. You still need to provide accurate business facts.
Can I launch first and add content later?
You can, but empty or placeholder pages look unprofessional and rarely rank. Launch with complete core pages and add blog content later.
What photo size should I send?
Send the original, largest version. The designer will resize and compress images for speed.
How long does content preparation take?
For a small business site, one to two focused weeks is typical if you set aside time.
