Small businesses hire without HR departments: the owner writes the job post, screens calls and trains new staff. AI for hiring can speed up these tasks. It must not become an unfair filter that rejects good people.
Helpful uses
- Job descriptions: clear duties, requirements, salary range, location, timings
- Job post variations for WhatsApp, Facebook groups and job portals (in English, Hindi, Punjabi)
- Interview questions for specific roles (drivers, telecallers, developers). See driver hiring checklist and web developer interview questions
- Practical test ideas (a sample customer call, a design brief)
- Onboarding checklists and training material: SOPs, FAQs, quizzes
- Policy drafts for review. See AI policy for employees
Prompt example
"Write a job post for a full-time taxi driver in Ludhiana for outstation trips to Delhi and Himachal. Requirements: commercial licence, 3+ years experience, police verification. Salary ₹[range] + allowances. Friendly, clear, in English and Punjabi."
Careful with AI screening
- Don't let AI automatically reject CVs based on age, gender, religion, caste, region, photos or gaps
- Use structured, job-related criteria and review every rejection yourself
- Ask the same core questions to every candidate
- Be cautious with "AI personality analysis" tools; they can be unreliable and unfair
Privacy
CVs contain personal data. Don't paste full CVs with contact details into consumer AI tools; remove identifying details or use business tools with data protection. Delete unsuccessful applicants' data after a reasonable time. See AI privacy risks.
Training new staff with AI
- Turn your best employee's explanations into a written SOP
- Create role-play scripts: "Customer says the car was late; respond"
- Make short quizzes to check understanding
- Translate training into the language staff are most comfortable with. See AI translation
