Website Header and Footer: What to Include for Trust, Navigation and SEO

Headers and footers appear on every page, so they shape trust and navigation across your whole site. Here's a checklist of what to include — and what to leave out.

The header and footer appear on every page of your website. They're where visitors look for your phone number, menu, address and policies — and where search engines find site-wide links. Getting them right improves trust, navigation and SEO across the whole site.

Header checklist

  • Logo linking to the homepage.
  • Main menu with 5–7 items: Home, Services (with sub-menu), About, Blog, Contact.
  • Primary call to action: "Call Now", "Book a Taxi", "Get a Quote" — styled as a button.
  • Phone number visible on desktop; click-to-call on mobile.
  • WhatsApp button where relevant.
  • Sticky header (stays visible while scrolling) — keep it slim on mobile.
  • Business name, address and phone — consistent with your Google Business Profile.
  • Business hours.
  • Key service links and important location pages.
  • Quick links: About, Blog, Contact, FAQ.
  • Policies: Privacy Policy, Terms, Refund/Cancellation (required if you take payments).
  • Social profile links.
  • Trust elements: registrations, certifications, payment methods accepted.
  • Copyright line with current year (automate it).
  • Small map or directions link for local businesses.

What to avoid

  • Huge link lists: hundreds of city/keyword links in the footer look spammy and dilute value. Link to a "Locations" or "Services" hub page instead.
  • Different phone numbers in header, footer and contact page.
  • Too many menu items — visitors can't decide.
  • Header covering half the mobile screen.
  • Broken or outdated links (old policies, deleted pages).

SEO notes

Site-wide links help Google discover key pages, but contextual links within content carry more meaning. Keep header/footer links focused on your most important pages. Use descriptive link text ("Airport Taxi") rather than "Click here".

Frequently Asked Questions

Should the phone number be in the header?

For local service businesses, yes — it's one of the most-used elements.

There's no fixed limit, but if the footer is longer than the page content, it's too much. Use hub pages.

Yes, if you collect any personal data through forms, analytics or payments.
