Copywriting is writing that asks the reader to do something: call, book, buy or enquire. You don't need a literature degree. A few copywriting basics will improve your website, ads and WhatsApp messages straight away.
1. Write for one reader
Picture one real customer. "A father in Ludhiana booking a taxi to Delhi Airport for his daughter's 4 AM flight" gives you far more to write about than "customers". What is he worried about? Punctuality, safety, a clean car, a fair price.
2. Lead with the result, not your history
Weak: "Established in 2009, we are a leading taxi service…" Strong: "Reach Delhi Airport on time, even for 4 AM flights. Fixed fare, no surprises."
Your history belongs on the About page. See how to write an About Us page.
3. Benefits beat features
"AC Innova Crysta" is a feature. "Room for 6 people and all your luggage, cool even in June" is the benefit. More on this in features vs benefits.
4. Use plain words
Write the way you'd explain it to a customer at your counter. Short sentences. Common words. One idea per paragraph. See readability tips.
5. Add proof
Claims are cheap; proof sells:
- Numbers: "4,800+ trips since 2018"
- Reviews with names
- Photos of your real work, shop or team
- Guarantees you can actually keep
See collecting real testimonials.
6. End with one clear action
Every page, ad and message should have one main next step: "Call now", "Get a free quote", "Book on WhatsApp". See call-to-action buttons.
7. Edit hard
Cut every word that doesn't help. Then read it aloud. If you stumble, rewrite it.
A quick test
Show your page to someone who doesn't know your business for 5 seconds. Can they say what you do, for whom, and what to do next? If not, start with the headline. See homepage headline guide.
